G-1 L.W. FOSTER 7823 (AER) AMEND. #2 (VP-21)

L.W. Foster produced probably one of the best G-1’s IMO, but this AMEND. #2 is a rare variation of 7823 (AER), fiscal year 1955. It belonged to P2V Neptune pilot who flew in VP-21 Patrol Squadron.

This beauty is in great condition, considering it’s around 65 years old. Leather is very supple and the mouton fur collar has that rusty tone.
CONMAR zipper working perfectly and original knits are in awesome shape too.
Right chest depicts a VP-21 “Black Jacks” patch and on the left chest is a...

New mouton collar

Finally got around to replacing the dynal collar on my original 1977 issue G-1 (7823E) with real mouton. I went up on the Bay and found a used mouton jacket of unknown vintage that looked like it would fit the bill. It was hard to tell from the pics but it looked like the desirable honey rust color of the earlier G1's. I was delighted when it arrived and it was exactly the right color. Took it to a local leather shop here in VA and the results are below. I am quite happy with it. Fun...

New Acme (Aero, Beacon) 21996- Spec-Weight

Gents,

Customer Jacket (NFS). This is my new 3 oz., chrome tanned, pigment finished option. This is a completely spec-weight garment. No more of the heavy duty boot/bag leather used in some of our competitors jackets. The hand and drape of this American made leather is perhaps less luxurious than some, but will wrinkle and slightly crease just like originals. The leather has been hand tinted and sealed, from a warm russet to a seal finish.

Jacket includes original NOS Ligne 24 snaps by...

Is 1 Real McCoy really worth 4 Aero Leathers??

I stopped into the Clutch Cafe today to check out the Real McCoy Type B-7, although I knew it would be pricey. It’s not really my cup of tea, but I just wanted to see their take. Pretty cool, definitely interesting, not for me.

But then I saw their B-3, which looked fairly nice. I love B-3’s, as my grandfather was an 8th Air Force pilot out of Horsham, and bombed the sh*t out the Germans in WWII before they shot him down. Beyond the history, I love the products where form follows function...

A-2’s with red silk lining

Following on from that thread in buy / sell that meandered, I thought I’d create this one.

Has anyone had an A-2 repro with red silk?

I found these two pics of red lined A-2’s that look rather cool I think.

I think it would be cool if ELC did a copy of a red silk A-2, for example Hub’s jacket as part of their Elite series.

WW2 A-2 tanning

Couldn't find a thread specifically on leather tanning. Forgive me if there is one and mods delete this thread if there is.

We're talking specifically A-2's now

So, veg tanning seems to be the one most "experts" deem the most period authentic but i believe chrome tanning was also done in WW2.
Was veg tanning cheaper ? Or the most common '39-'45 ?
What pros & cons do each of the two methods have ? I find ELC's leather never truly softens up. Jackets always look stiff and feel a bit like...

A very interesting jacket. It has patches from both WWII and Korea. On both shoulders there are 15th Air Force Italian made patches which are in sorry condition but still there and on the chest is a super rare Korean War 12th Tactical Reconnaissance squadron which is the Blackbirds squadron (later flew U2s and then the SR71).
The jacket is a Bronco with amazing patina and replaced cuffs and waistband, The jacket came with the original Korean war dog tags, the pilot WWII sterling silver ID...

Boot recommendations for icy conditions

Does anyone have recommendations for boots for heavy snow and ice? I have an unplanned trip coming up to Quebec City for a month, and am scrambling to prepare. High today was -13C (!). I'm hoping an M-65 with a liner and a few layers + scarf will do the trick there (yeah, I know a shearling would be ideal, but expensive for a single trip). I've never done an icy winter before, so welcome any boot recommendations.

All the materials have been procured and we are going to begin constructing our reproduction of the P. Goldsmith Sons Co A-2 next week. Watch this thread for further updates.

Here is our label layout for the jacket. We went with the SAT format for the spec label thinking that it would most likely be the same for a jacket made one year earlier. Note the larger text on the "Type A-2". In addition we went with the white Goldsmith label that was used for garments during the time the jacket was...

The Submariner
£ 77.95
The Submariner's sweater has been manufactured by us for many years for the British Royal Navy. With its roll neck, deep welt (hem) and cuffs and an internal reinforcement patch to the neck/shoulder seam, it is made to an original 70 year old specification. The Submariners sweater is made using a 3-fold 100% pure new British wool, especially treated to prevent shrinkage.

Believe one of the best cut and pattern available ( correct and same as the GW ones) ... note the collar, label and epaulets design...
IMHO, the most correct pattern ( with GW) offered as repro, so far.

New Netflix movie by Scorcesse on called “the Irishman”.
near the beginning Deniro’s character is wearing a leather jacket while working on his broken down truck. Man the jacket looks sweet. Not sure the type (halfbelt?) but wondering if it’s a repro or a vintage. I know actors sometimes are quite particular with some pieces of the wardrobe being worn.
has some gnarly grain and looks to be HH.

upon continued viewing, it has to be vintage. It has that look to the leather.

MASH A-10/USN Gloves

The latest addition to my collection...a set of A-10 gloves and a set of USN aviator gloves.

First impressions:
  • I love the period packaging for both. The A-10 came in a paper envelope and the USN came in a nice canvas drawstring bag.
  • The USN are much more supple. No need to break these in at all. The leather is buttery.
  • Not entirely sure of the practical purpose of having the sheepskin on the outside of the USN glove, but it definitely gives them a unique look. Good for...
